- Maintain a résumé master list on your pc where you retain any content you’ve ever incorporated on a résumé: old jobs, parts modified for various applications, unique projects that just every now and then make sense to include. Then, when you’re developing each résumé, it is basically a matter of cutting and pasting pertinent info.
- Consider your résumé not as a comprehensive record of your professional history, but as a marketing item pitching you as the right applicant for the role. For each résumé you prepare, you will want to play up only the accomplishments and skills that are most pertinent to the role (regardless if that means you leave off all of your experience).
- There are lots of distinctive types of résumés, but the classic reverse chronological (where your most recent experience is listed first) still is your best option. While you can choose skills-based résumés in specific instances, some recruiters will wonder what you’re hiding.
- Ensure that your top experiences and accomplishments are seen on the top third of your résumé. The top portion is just what the hiring manager is going to read first—and what will operate as bait for a person to carry on browsing.
- For most positions, use a basic but modern font, like Helvetica, Arial or Century Gothic. Make your résumé is easily readable for prospective employers by choosing a font size between 10 and 12.
- Think very carefully before working with a two-page résumé. If you have a sufficient amount of relevant experience, training, and credentials relating to the position to showcase on more than a single page of your résumé, then go all out. But if you can convey the same information in far less space? Then do that.
- You can choose a separate font or typeface for your name, your résumé headers, and the places you have worked at, but ensure that it stays basic and keep it consistent.
